************************************** Craters! Impact craters, volcanic craters II Shortcourse Celano - Italy 1st-8th July 2007 From: Francesco Stoppa <fstoppa@xxxxxxxx> ************************************** A geological short course based on comparison between materials produced by impact cratering and volcanic cratering. This is a development from the first such short course which was run in 2005 supported by Socrates, and located in Chieti University 1st to 8th, July 2007. The purpose is to enable the identification and discrimination between geological products of both volcanic craters and impact craters at a variety of scales, from macroscopic to microscopic. In addition this will include important information on hazard assessment, and on the relative roles of the two processes for climate change, mass extinctions and extremophiles. The course is open to all registered students with an appropriate earth science background, but for logistic reasons will likely be limited to 24 places in total. A certificate of accomplishment will be awarded to all participants who successfully complete the course, including relevant examination, and may contribute to home university accreditation schemes (to be determined on an individual basis).
