The Planetary Science Research Group at Lancaster University is able to
offer one PPARC-funded research studentship to start in October 2007.
The faculty members of the group available to act as advisors are Prof.
Lionel Wilson, Prof. Harry Pinkerton, Dr. Jennie Gilbert and Dr. Steve
Lane. Current major themes in our work include (i) theoretical
modelling of the physics of explosive and effusive volcanic eruption
processes occurring on Io, Mars, Venus, the Moon, and the differentiated
asteroids; (ii) identification and morphological analysis of volcanic
deposits on Mars using multispectral and thermal inertia data; (iii)
theoretical and laboratory analysis of the processes affecting water
released onto the surface of Mars; (iv) theoretical modelling of the
migration of hydrothermal fluids within early evolving asteroids and the
sublimation of solid volatiles from comets. The deadline for
applications is March 30, 2007. Applications can be made via the
