Dear colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to the following session at
the AGU joint assembly in Acapulco, Mexico, 22-25 May, 2007: 'Volcano
satellite monitoring'. We hope that the title and abstract are broad
enough to attract a wide range of abstracts from people interested in
satellite remote sensing of active voclanism.

In the last 15 years it has been shown that satellite data offer a means
of supplementing ground-based monitoring during volcanic eruptions. Of
particular importance is satellite monitoring of isolated, difficult to
access, volcanoes; eruptions from which can represent a risk to aerial
navigation. Real-time satellite monitoring of volcanically active regions
has thus become a viable and increasingly established tool. The aim of
this session is thus to exchange information and experience regarding
real-time satellite monitoring of active volcanoes. Also of interest are
new observations or analysis techniques that may supplement the real-time
volcano monitoring systems, as well as automated techniques for event
detection in satellite data and information dissemination.
