The Department of Geological Sciences seeks to recruit talented and
motivated graduate students at Master's and PhD level to conduct
research in petrology and volcanology. Specific themes include:

* Structural, thermal and metamorphic evolution of orogenic belts
* Fluid flow in the deep crust and contact aureoles
* Genesis, transport and emplacement of granites and pegmatites
* Viscosity, rheology and thermodynamics of magmas
* Physical controls on lava flow morphology and evolution

Students may be supported on Research Assistantship, through one of
several current NSF-funded projects, or Teaching Assistantship.
Current 9-month stipends are $15,000 for MS and $17,000 for PhD
students, and tuition fees are waived for both RA and TA positions.
Additional summer support is available.

Further information on our faculty members, facilities, and current
graduate students is available from the department web page:
