29th Course of the International School of Geophysics

Euro-Conference of “Rock Physics and Geomechanics”on:

Natural hazards: thermo-hydro-mechanical processes in rocks

(EMFCSC, Erice, Sicily, 25 – 30 September, 2007)

INITIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

AND CALL FOR MAILING LIST REGISTRATION

Purpose of the Conference

Following the example of earlier, highly successful Euroconferences on Rock
Physics and Geomechanics (held most recently in Kijkduin, The Netherlands,
2003; Potsdam, Germany, 2004; Oleron, France 2005), our aim will be to bring
together scientists from different academic and industrial environments. The
program will include oral and poster presentations on theoretical models,
laboratory experiments and field applications. It will be more specifically
focussed on applying Rock Physics and Geomechanics knowledge and methods to
Natural Hazards mitigation and other Geotechnical applications.

Conference Format

The conference will feature a school format with thematic sessions that will
include keynote lecture/s and meeting style presentations.

Poster sessions will be organized, along with very brief overviews from
contributors. Time will be allocated to open and/or panel discussions.

Half or full day will be devoted to a guided excursion.

Venue and Dates

The conference will be held at the “Ettore Majorana” Foundation and Centre
for Scientific Culture (EMFCSC) in Erice (Sicily), Italy (
<http://www.ccsem.infn.it/> http://www.ccsem.infn.it/) from Tuesday,
September 25 to Sunday 30, 2007. The Erice site is quite special and,
together with the target audience of ~80 attendees, very conducive to making
connections and forming creative new collaborations.
