Piton de la Fournaise, Reunion Island

The Piton de la Fournaise eruption, which started on Aug 30 is still
going on within the Dolomieu summit crater.
An about 20 to 25 m high new crater was formed in the South-East part of
the Dolomieu and about 75% of the Dolomieu crater floor was covered with
new lava flows up to 10 m thick. The eastern Dolomieu was filled up to
the crater rim, were a small lava flow flow over the rim and down the
flank for some hundreds of meter.
On Oct 9, a second eruption crater formed about 100 m South-West of the
first one, which is still active today.
Note the latter occurred together with a rare event of snowfall on Piton
de la Fournaise.
