CSAV is pleased to announce its 17th annual International Training Course in Volcano Hazards Monitoring. This six-week course is designed for scientists and technicians who work with active volcanoes. The dates of the course will be May 21 – June 29, 2007.

The International Training Program is designed to assist volcano observatories world-wide in attaining proficiency in the current methods of monitoring volcanoes. The field training emphasizes instrument deployment, data collection and interpretation, and developing technologies that are currently in use by the U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. In addition to learning volcanic hazards assessment, participants learn the interrelationship of scientists, governing officials, and the news media during volcanic crises.

Over the years, we have enjoyed working with over 100 participants from 25 different countries. The cost is US$2,000 for the course itself, and $600 for housing. If you are interested in attending the course, please submit a curriculum vitae, and fill out an International Application Form, which can be downloaded from our web page http://www.uhh.hawaii.edu/~csav/international

Please fax this information to the CSAV office at (808) 974-7677, or e-mail it to csav@xxxxxxxxxx Feel free to contact Darcy Bevens at that address if you have any questions.
