I would like to bring your attention on the 1.5 year position
we offer for working on electromagnetic phenomena related to Natural Hazards:

DEMETER PROGRAM

ELECTROMAGNETIC SIGNALS RELATED TO EARTHQUAKES AND VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS

Demeter (Detection of Electro-Magnetic Emissions Transmitted from
Earthquake Regions) is a scientific program
sponsored by the Centre National dEtudes Spatiales (CNES) in Toulouse, France.
A micro-satellite has been launched in June 2004 to study the
electromagnetic (EM) field of the Earth.
(See Web site : <http://smsc.cnes.fr/DEMETER/>http://smsc.cnes.fr/DEMETER/).

The program focuses on two main targets. The first and main objective is to
evidence, at the satellite altitude
and at the ground level, possible electromagnetic signals associated with
earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.
The second objective is to better understand the electromagnetic
environment of the Earth and its perturbations due to human activities.

Our team focuses on EM data recorded at the ground level.
To assure the validity of EM events related to ground natural hazards,
electromagnetic networks have been set up
in active seismic and volcanic regions as Greece for earthquakes and La
Fournaise volcano (Réunion Island) for eruptive events.
Other tectonically active regions are also in the scope of the program.
The ground-based stations record the EM field on a large frequency band:
from months or years to 20 kHz.

We are looking for a very good and serious candidate to:
- Develop data acquisition software and automatic transfers from
remote sites till laboratories involved in the project,
- Develop specific real time software to process data,
- Participate to the maintenance of the remote stations as well as
our computer systems,
- Join field works related to natural hazards.

The candidate will live in France and will work within J. Zlotnicki and the
electromagnetic group in Clermont-Ferrand observatory.
The wages will depend on the candidate status, from about 1100 ¬ to 1500 ¬,
charges already removed.
