Dear Colleagues:

We would like to draw you attention to a special session at the

coming Fall AGU meeting titled: T05: Structural, Petrologic, and Seismic Segmentation of the Cascades Subduction Zone

We hope to bring together researchers from across the disciplines to discuss the nature of segmentation in the Cascadia subduction zone.

The meeting will be held December 11-15, 2006 in San Francisco and the electronic abstract submission deadline is September 7, 2006. If you are interested in participating please submit your abstract online at http://submissions4.agu.org/submission/entrance.asp

The session is being organized by Anita Grunder (grundera@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx), Richard Allen (rallen@xxxxxxxxxxxx)and Anne Trehu (trehu@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx). Please contact one of the conveners with any questions.

A little more detail on the session T05: Structural, Petrologic, and Seismic Segmentation of the Cascades Subduction Zone

Many different types of observations from the Cascadia Subduction Zone suggest along-arc segmentation. This has been documented in the composition and distribution of volcanism and in structure and seismicity in the forearc. As evidence for paleoseismicity and episodic tremor and slip has accumulated in the forearc of the Cascadia subduction zone, segmentation in the temporal and spatial distribution events has become apparent. The purpose of this session is to bring together investigators from different disciplines to review and update observations of arc (sensu lato) segmentation in order to explore links among disparate data sets and provide insights into the underlying processes that control the observed segmentation.Talks from seismology, geodesy, petrology, structural geology, paleoseismology and other geological and geophysical disciplines are welcomed.
