VGP 03, Volatiles in Magmas and Dynamics of Volcanic Eruptions
Western Pacific Geopyhsics Meeting
July24-27th, Beijing, China

We would like to draw your attention to a special session on "volatiles in
magma and dynamics of volcanic eruptions". The aim of this session is to
bring scientists together to highlight progresses in this dynamic field.

Dissolved volatiles (especially water) in magma affect magma properties of
volcanological importance, including viscosity, density, diffusivity, surface
tension, and strength of magma. Furthermore, volatiles affect both the
equilibrium crystallization temperature and sequence, the kinetics of the
magma solidification and bubble growth, and the dynamics of eruptions.

Abstract Submission Deadline:
      Online by 16 March 2006.

Postal or Express Mail Submissions by 9 March 2006. These (text only)
submissions can be sent to AGU on a diskette or CD.
          AGU Meetings Department
          2000 Florida Ave. NW
          Washington, DC 20009 USA

More information about the meeting, hotels, visa and travel can be found at

We sincerely hope that you will be able to contribute to the special session.
