[VLAN] vlan 4095 invalid argument message

Dear vlan list members,

We are running the commercial version of red hat linux advanced server 3.0

on a IBM blade server. The blades are connected to a nortel layer 2-7
switch.

We have successfully used the vconfig utility to set up an ip on vlan 2
and
it coexists with other non-vlan ips on the same interface.

There is a management vlan 4095 used by the nortel switch which is
reserved
for managing the switches via the blade center management module.

By default all blade servers are members of vlan 4095 on their respective
switch ports.

We tried to create an interface on vlan 4095 and encountered the following
message.

[root@c1b10a01 qlogic]#
[root@c1b10a01 qlogic]# vconfig add eth0 4095
ERROR: trying to add VLAN #4095 to IF -:eth0:- error: Invalid argument
[root@c1b10a01 qlogic]#

The version of linux we are using is:

[root@c1b10a01 qlogic]# uname -a
Linux c1b10a01 2.4.21-15.ELsmp #1 SMP Thu Apr 22 00:18:24 EDT 2004 i686 i686
i386 GNU/Linux

We are not sure what version of vconfig we are using, is there a way to
find this out?

Any advice on why we cannot create an ip on vlan 4095 would be greatly
appreciated.

Regards,
Tony Hempinstall.
