broadcom? yea right, someone will likely have to be willing to buy
50,000 before they will even start producing them and then you'll need
to be willing to buy 10-20,000 unless someone like digi-key decides to
stock it. They made a cool tuner chip that handled most if not all
current sat formats, but it never went to production because no one
would commit to a insane quanity.

VDR runs just fine on a seagate dockstar, so I see no reason why it
shouldn't run on this device, but I don't believe that it has enough power
show the TV signal via hdmi.

Well lets see, when it apears, if it will be available to normal
people AND if the required driver will be there too.
It's broadcom, so I doubt it: the wolf may lose his teeth but never his nature.
At most (if anything) we'll get a binary blob tied to a specific kernel version
with no possible upgrade path.
