No, it's a "useful feature" in the NVidia driver because NVidia's scaler does a better looking job than the one built into a typical LCD monitor. Add this to your "Device" section in xorg.conf: Option "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = Native" If you use xrandr to view/choose refresh rates, add this too: Option "DynamicTwinView" "false" There are more details in the driver's README.
