Convert .* video to .vdr format - how?

Depends on output device. In case of DVB cards, it also depends on 
firmware version. Some versions will pad the format to the next allowed 
higher resolution.

Compatible resolutions are {720,704,640,512,480,352}x{576,480,288,240}, 
though not all combinations work. Frame rate should be 25fps for 576 and 
288 lines, and 30fps for 480 and 240 lines. And your TV should be NTSC 
capable if you want to use these resolution, of course.
