The gain of 2.6 is, that USB(DVB and Storage) is much better supported, and the DVB drivers including DVB-T are part of the kernel! Now let's wait if the box is stable now... A BIG disadavantage is the increase of boot time. Himt: There is no sensfull way back to 2.4.x and VDR!(2.4 allone as "emergency" works) if you try to "upgrade".
