- From what I have seen, this is backwards.  The canonical name is
/dev/dm-N.  The friendly name is /dev/mapper/foo.  Other tools I have
seen that are given the /dev/mapper/ friendly name canonicalize it TO
/dev/dm-N, and it appears that is what mount.ntfs is doing as well, and
it should not be.

I agree that mtab should be recording the /dev/mapper name if that is
what was passed to mount, but /dev/dm-N is the canonical kernel name of
the device, so it seems we have a semantic misunderstanding here.
