Prescribed burns planned this week
SEDONA, Ariz., April 8, 2019, For Immediate Release —
Coconino National Forest firefighters are planning to take advantage of favorable weather conditions this week for prescribed burn operations, beginning as early as Tuesday.
This week’s broadcast prescribed burns will target up to 1,800 acres on the Red Rock Ranger District and an additional 300 acres of pile burns on the
eastern side of the Mogollon Rim Ranger District. The increased wind speed is a benefit for these planned burns, which are a part of the 5-year plan to reduce hazardous fuels and improve forest health on the Coconino National Forest. RED ROCK RANGER DISTRICT.
Apache Maid Range Project
When:
April 9 to 12 (Tuesday to Friday) beginning at approximately 9 a.m.
Size:
Approximately 1,800 acres. MOGOLLON RIM RANGER DISTRICT.
Bar T Bar Piles
When:
April 10 and 11 (Wednesday and Thursday).
Size: Up to 300 acres of piles. Prescribed burns are
always dependent upon weather and wind conditions, as well as approval from Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).
The public can view approved prescribed burns on ADEQ’s website at smoke.azdeq.gov. Coconino National Forest burns begin with the designator “COF.”
