National Bat Week 2018 at Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center
JUNEAU, Alaska, October 19, 2018
– The U.S. Forest Service will host a celebration of bats as part of National Bat Week during the last week of October at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Fun, youth-oriented
activities and crafts will take place upstairs in the Visitor Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday thru Sunday, October 26, 27, and 28.
National Bat Week helps raise awareness of the importance of bats and the many challenges they face in a rapidly changing world. As diseases like white-nose syndrome and problems
like habitat loss continue to decimate bat populations, it is more important than ever to educate and inform people about the many ecosystem services bats provide as well as how to protect bats in their natural habitat.
Please join us in our celebration of these special creatures! For more information about bats and what Batweek is all about, please visit

The
Mendenhall Glacier Junior Ranger Book, Tongass Junior Ranger Book, and
Family Field Guides will be available. Families are also encouraged to try our
Agents of Discovery app.
The Visitor Center and Discovery Southeast Bookstore are open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Outdoor areas around the center are open 6 a.m. to midnight, year-round.
