Celebrating spring at the Stikine River Birding Festival WRANGELL, Alaska, March 23, 2018
– The Stikine River Birding Festival celebrates the spring arrival of migratory birds, including hundreds of thousands of shorebirds to the Stikine River Delta. The 21st year of this Wrangell
festival takes place April 26-29, 2018. This year’s schedule is now available online at
www.stikinebirding.org. Highlights include family activities, photo and art workshops, birding
excursions, bird banding demonstrations, and guest speakers. Ketchikan artist Evon Zerbetz will spent the week teaching art workshops in Wrangell schools, and the student artwork will be on display at the festival reception on Friday, April 27. Following the
reception, there will be presentations from Alaskan photographer Mark Kelley and University of Washington professor Julia Parrish, who will present
Marine Birds and a Warming Ocean: The Power of Citizen Science. The festival is sponsored by the Tongass National Forest, the City and Borough of Wrangell, the Wrangell Convention and Visitors Bureau, James and Elsie Nolan Center, and many local Wrangell
