Snake Ridge Fire May 31 update

Happy Jack, Ariz., May 31, 2017, For Immediate Release The Snake Ridge Fire received some precipitation over parts of the fire yesterday, slowing down burnout operations. Blackline and interior ignitions are expected to continue today with less intensity and reduced smoke over the 8,200 acres of burned terrain.  Firefighters will continue to monitor fire progression and to reinforce and secure the fire line perimeter.

A 2,500 acre section that was part of a prescribed burn in April served as a reliable holding feature to protect some values of concern. This included sections of the WAPA powerline, private land and range improvement, as well as a timber sale area.

Low smoke impacts to local communities and roadways can be expected over the next several days as the fire continues to burn along the forest floor reducing woody fuel accumulation within the fire perimeter. Ventilation is expected to be favorable with southwest prevailing winds.

As this fire moves towards containment, Type 3 fire personnel will begin sizing down, and Mogollon Rim Ranger District personnel will continue to monitor and patrol the area.

A smoke prediction and modeling resource for the Snake Ridge Fire is available for the public at http://tinyurl.com/yarfo4fx. Smoke modeling helps the public plan for possible smoke impacts by predicting when and where the smoke might travel over a 72-hour period. While we endeavor to keep the information accurate and up-to-date, the modeling is a predicted forecast and not a guarantee. However, it has proven reliable and is a resource we hope to provide for future fires.
