Diversity of Alaskan birds at this week’s Friday Night Insight,
KETCHIKAN, Alaska, April
26, 2017–Experience the wild diversity of Alaskan birds—307 species of them—through the lens of extreme birder Lynn Barber on April 28 at 6 p.m. in the Elizabeth Peratrovich Theater, inside the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center.

The Southeast Alaska Discovery Center’s series of educational and creative events to promote awareness of the region’s spring migratory birds concludes this weekend. The final 2017 Alaska Hummingbird Festival
events include:
Breakfast with the Birds with Teri Hoyt. Birder Teri Hoyt will lead an informative and enjoyable birding walk at Totem Bight State Park. Bring
binoculars and water and dress for the weather. Meet at the parking lot. (8 a.m., Saturday, April 29.
Birds Everywhere! Discover how to keep your eyes open for the tell-tale signs of our local birds at the Discovery Center. (1 p.m., Saturday, April
29).
All programs and activities are free to the public.
Visitors are welcome to enjoy the exhibits, purchase maps and America the Beautiful passes, and learn about the forest from an interpretive ranger on Friday’s in April. A variety of films exploring the natural
and cultural history of Alaska will be played in the Elizabeth Peratrovich Theater, upon request, until 5 p.m.
Teachers are welcome to bring their classrooms for tours during this time or schedule a private tour Monday through Thursday by calling 907-228-6290. The Southeast Alaska Discovery Center is located at 50 Main
Street in Ketchikan.
Summer hours begin in May, with the center open 7 days per week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fee collection begins on May 1 with all areas requiring a $5.00 entrance fee. Local visitors may purchase a Discovery Center
season pass for $15.00 which gets the cardholder and two others in for a daily visit from May 1–September 30, 2017.
