Public input sought as planning continues for the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area

JUNEAU, Alaska, October 28, 2016 -- The Forest Service invites everyone interested in the planning of the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area to participate in the third planning charrette on Wednesday, November 9th, 6:30 p.m. at the Juneau Ranger District conference room.

Corvus Design is working with the Forest Service to plan for future infrastructure within the recreation area. Christopher Mertl, Project Manager with Corvus Design said, "This session will engage the public in an exercise that will initiate discussion on the planning of the Recreation Area. This work will build from, and is a continuation of, previous charrette sessions conducted with the public. We are also seeking review and input of the inventory maps that have been developed to date.”

Eric Ouderkirk, Forest Service Project Manager would like to remind the public that their continued involvement in the charrette sessions is essential for the project success. “This charrette will help us progress from inventory and data collection for the area by introducing the public to the planning process. This is meant to be an interactive meeting where the participants start to look at the opportunities and challenges associated with the area and how to best plan for the future of the recreation area.”

The Juneau Ranger District office is located at 8510 Mendenhall Loop Road.
