Discussions continue about the future of Mendenhall Glacier recreation facilities

JUNEAU, Alaska, September 12, 2016 -- The Forest Service invites everyone interested in facilities around the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area to participate in a second design charrette on Sept. 13, 6:30 p.m. at the Juneau Ranger District conference room.

Corvus Design is helping the Forest Service plan for future infrastructure, and they will lead the public in an exercise that will build off the previous charrette. Christopher Mertl, Project Manager with Corvus Design said, "Charrette number two is going to focus on how users want to experience the recreation area, what they want to get out of their visit, and the facilities needed. We will identify top priority activities and opportunities."

Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center Director John Neary urges everyone to get involved early and often. “These are collaborative sessions where your presence matters” said Neary. “We understand the term ‘charrette’ is new to many people and we hope you want to attend to find out more about how it’s done and to contribute your ideas.”

The Juneau Ranger District office is located at 8510 Mendenhall Loop Road.
