Interagency fire crews assist with the Coco Fire Tusayan, Ariz., July 29, 2016—For Immediate Release. “We are very pleased to have such a diverse interagency presence and expertise assisting us here on the Coco fire to help us achieve desired beneficial resource objectives” says
Christina Pearson, Acting Tusayan District Ranger. The fire is now estimated at 1,462 acres in size.
Yesterday, firefighters were successful in igniting fuels along
Forest Road 303 and monitored the fire progression within the interior of the planning area. Light precipitation occurred over the fire on Thursday, which slowed fire progression in the early afternoon.
Today, there was a light to moderate haze in Tusayan, which was noticeable in the early morning and quickly dispersed. Light winds, yet potentially erratic, are forecast for the fire area for the next several days, which will further assist
fire to move through the interior of the unit. Crews will continue to protect sensitive cultural sites and actively monitor the fire. The current forecast predicts a return to monsoonal moisture patterns beginning this weekend and continuing throughout the upcoming week. It is likely that smoke will remain visible from Highway 64, Grand Canyon National Park’s Desert View
Drive, and other populated areas. The Arizona Trail remains open to hikers.
