Attached is today’s news release and vicinity map regarding the Wildcat Fire on the North Kaibab Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest. Thank you! r/s David
June 18, 2016 Location: South of Highway 89A and southwest of the Forest Road 8910 and 211 junction within the
vicinity of the South Canyon trailhead in Saddle Mountain Wilderness. Size: Approximately 1,520 acres
Movement:
The Wildcat Fire is primarily wind driven from the southwest. Percent contained: 20 %
Cause: Lightning Resources assigned: 236 personnel, which includes engine crews, hand crews, air support, water tenders
and dozers. Management strategy: Full suppression. Summary: Rising temperatures, low relative humidity and an unauthorized aircraft in the Temporary
Flight Restriction (TFR) area impacted the Wildcat Fire yesterday. The TFR breach briefly shut down air operations, which immediately impacted the ability to use air assets to fight the fire. As a reminder, TFRs are defined as a specific area where airspace
is restricted due to air traffic responding to a wildfire. Priorities include: ·
Ensure for incident personnel and public safety. ·
Build and maintain relationships with adjacent agencies, cooperators and stakeholders. ·
Protect cultural and natural resources, North and South Canyon watersheds, private landholdings and infrastructures. ·
Protect wilderness values through minimal suppression tactics within the wilderness. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon and all recreation facilities on the North Kaibab Ranger District are open. No closures are in place at this time. However, drivers
are encouraged to be cautious while driving through House Rock Valley on Arizona Highway 89A, in the vicinity of Jacob Lake and the junction of Arizona Highway 67 and 89A due to fire related traffic. To find out where fire restrictions are in effect in Arizona, visit
