Wildcat Fire Update
June 17, 2016
Location: South of Highway 89A and southwest of the Forest Road 8910 and 211 junction within the
vicinity of the South Canyon trailhead in Saddle Mountain Wilderness. Size: Approximately 1, 350 acres.
Movement:
The Wildcat Fire is primarily wind driven from the southwest. Percent contained: 0 %
Cause: Lightning Resources assigned: 137 personnel, which includes engine crews, hand crews, air support, and water
tenders. Management strategy: Full suppression. Summary: At 6 am today the Southwest Area Incident Management Team 4 assumed
responsibility for managing the Wildcat Fire, which began on June 13. Firefighters and air resources attempted to suppress the fire; however, high winds on Wednesday afternoon caused spotting and increased growth significantly towards the northeast.

Please be cautious while driving on State Highway 89A through the House Rock Valley area, around Jacob Lake and at the junction of State Highway
67 and 89A due to fire related traffic. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon and all recreation facilities on the North Kaibab Ranger District are open for visitor use. No closures are
