Wildcat Fire Update as of 8:30 pm

 

Fredonia, Ariz., June 15, 2016 — For Immediate Release. The lightning-caused Wildcat Fire became more active this afternoon and rapidly grew to an estimated 2,000 acres on the North Kaibab Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest.

The following is a brief overview:

 

Start Date: June 13, 2016

 

Location: South of Highway 89A and southwest of the Forest Road 8910 and 211 junction within the vicinity of the South Canyon trailhead in Saddle Mountain Wilderness.

 

Cause: Lightning caused.

 

Fire movement: The fire is currently burning in a northeast direction from the House Rock Buffalo Ranch.

 

Management strategy: Full suppression.

 

Current size: Estimated 2,000 acres.

 

Resources: There are currently 200 personnel assigned to the fire under the command of a type-3 incident commander. Resources include 1 type-3 engine crew, 1 type-3 helicopter, 1 type-2 helicopter, 1 type-1 helicopter, Wildcat Air Attack, Mormon Lake Hotshots, Sawtooth Hotshots, 2 Task Force Leaders, 1 Task Force Leader trainee, and miscellaneous overhead.

 

Fuel Type: Pinyon/Juniper, grasses and shrubs.

 

Smoke: Visitors can expect to see smoke as the wildfire is highly visible from Highway 89A.
