Free firewood available
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., Nov. 13, 2015, For Immediate Release —
A hand-thinning project south of Flagstaff has produced slash piles that are available for public removal after obtaining a free firewood permit from the Flagstaff Ranger
Station or Forest Supervisor’s Office.
The area is accessible from YX Ranch Road, which is near the intersection of S. Lake Mary Road and E. John W. Powell Blvd, approximately five miles south of downtown Flagstaff.
Hand-thinning means that trees were cut by chainsaws and the slash is piled by hand.
The piles consist of dead and down ponderosa pine logs with diameters ranging from four to 12 inches.
A map of the area where the free slash piles are located will be provided along with the required free firewood permit. People using vehicles to collect
the free firewood are asked to refrain from doing so in wet conditions so resource damage doesn’t occur.
