Williams, Ariz., July 27, 2015—For Immediate Release. SPRINGS FIRE OVERVIEW Yesterday: Fire managers completed burn out operations near Forest Road 57, just to the south of Summit Mountain, to protect private lands and meet fire objectives. Additionally, a Wildland Fire Module (WFM) consisting of 11 firefighters
from the Huron-Manistee National Forest arrived. WFM’s are completely self-sufficient; traveling and carrying all necessary equipment to assist with wildfires. Today: A Type-2 crew, consisting of 20 wildland firefighters from the Arizona State Forestry Division arrived early this morning from Winslow, Ariz. to provide additional support on the firelines. About 50 total fire personnel are
currently on the ground providing support. Blacklining and handlining operations will occur on Summit Mountain to protect communications infrastructure and forest heritage resources, both of which meet fire manager objectives. Firefighters will also complete
blacklining operations on County Road 73/Perkinsville Rd. or the “South Road,” south of the intersection with Forest Road 354, to create a fire perimeter to the west.
Smoke: Smoke impacts will continue to occur in the Garland Prairie and Sherwood Forest areas as winds are forecasted out of the southwest. Smoke may also be visible in the Bellemont, Interstate 40 area, Dogtown, White Horse and
Red Lake vicinity. As the fire moves to the northeast, across Summit Mountain, smoke may become more visible from a greater distance and along the I-40 corridor between Williams and Flagstaff. Closures: Campers are advised to be cautious when selecting campsites along Forest Road 354 and Forest Road 110.
