For Immediate Release

Anchorage, Alaska, July 24, 2015 -
The Chugach National Forest, provider of the 2015 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, is looking for volunteers to create handmade tree skirts that will be shipped to Washington, D.C. this fall. In addition to a 74-foot Lutz spruce tree that will be placed on the Capitol lawn, the Chugach, through partners, will provide about 60 smaller companion trees for use in various Congressional offices and USDA buildings in during the holiday season.

The theme for the 2015 Capitol Christmas Tree project is, “A Gift from the Great Land.” These tree skirts—like the thousands of ornaments that have been created across the state—will represent Alaskans, their art, and their connection to the unique places where they live.

Finished skirts must be received in the Forest Supervisor’s office in Anchorage no later than October 1, 2015. For more detailed information, please contact Teresa Haugh, U.S. Forest Service, Public Affairs, Juneau, Alaska. (907) 586-9337, email thaugh@xxxxxxxxx.
