News Release
Contact: Brady Smith Camillo and Horse Tank Fires update Flagstaff, Ariz., June 23, 2015, For Immediate Release —
Fire operations for the Horse Tank Fire resulted in approximately 400 acres being burned last night, and crews will begin to scale back tomorrow as the fire’s progression begins to lessen and objectives
are being met. Crews on the Camillo Fire initiated ignitions last night near Mint Tank and in strategic areas along the power line, burning approximately 1,000 acres.
Both fires received some small amounts of rain last night and moisture is expected in the areas of the fire over the next few days. The Horse Tank and Camillo fires are fulfilling their natural and crucial role in the ecosystem. The forest needs frequent, low severity fire to restore
wildlife habitat, promote healthy vegetation, reduce fuels and the risk of severe fire, and create safer conditions for residents, visitors, and firefighters.
