For Immediate Release

JUNEAU, Alaska, April 14, 2015- Youth between 15-18 are encouraged to take advantage of a four-week opportunity this summer in Angoon or Ketchikan.

The Youth Conservation Corps, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and community organizations, is seeking 10 candidates for paid positions this summer.

The resident YCC program provides housing and not only gives youth a taste of natural resource management in the trails, cabins, ecology, and timber programs but also gives them a chance to learn life skills that are critical to their futures.

Interested candidates, for either location, should go to http://www.fs.usda.gov/main/r10/jobs to download the application. Applications will be considered starting April 24, 2015. Candidates should be prepared for remote camping and the wet conditions of a temperate rain forest.

Four applicants are being sought for a crew on Admiralty Island National Monument District that will work with the Sitka Conservation Society, the Angoon Community Association, and the Forest Service. The crew-based work will focus on trail and shelter maintenance, firewood hauling, non-native invasive plant control, wilderness stewardship (such as campsite inventorying, beach clean-up, solitude & cultural resource monitoring), conservation education and ecological restoration inventory and monitoring.
