Palatki Heritage Site closed for one week in April
Flagstaff, Ariz., Apr. 1, 2015, For Immediate Release —
The
Palatki Heritage Site, located northwest of Sedona will be closed April 13-19 for maintenance. Trail resurfacing and maintenance to the ranch house, visitor center and surrounding area
will be conducted by Forest Service personnel, a Friends of the Forest trail crew, as well as the Student Conservation Association—a group that is attending a Bureau of Land Management field school. The trail project will entail spreading about three inches of crushed aggregate base,
topped with two to three inches of decomposed granite on approximately 200 yards of the trail from the visitor center to the viewing platform. The public may visit other heritage and archaeology sites during this time, such as the
Honanki Heritage Site cliff dwelling, open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and located just northwest of Palatki. The largest known petroglyph site in Verde Valley, known as V Bar V, is also open Friday through Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and located southeast
of Sedona, near Exit 298 off Interstate 17. More information about all of these sites can be found online at
http://www.fs.usda.gov/main/coconino/learning/history-culture.
Please call the Palatki Heritage Site at 928-282-3854 to make reservations for visiting
the site in the future and get any updates on the temporary closure.
