Sitka trails are closed in the Starrigavan area
SITKA, Alaska–Part of the Starrigavan off-highway vehicle trail system is currently closed to all forms of traffic or modes of transportation excluding
foot traffic. The closure is for public safety and to prevent additional damage of trails and other resources impacted by a September 2014 landslide.
The slide area was approximately 75-100 acres. About 1500 feet of trail was eroded or buried. The slide affected North Fork Starrigavan Creek fish habitat,
coho rearing ponds, two fish passage culverts, one log stringer bridge, and blocked access to about 0.75 miles of trail.
Trail closure includes trails 31487A3, 31487E and that portion of trail 31487 between Points A and B as shown on the map. This closure pertains to all forms of traffic or modes of transportation
excluding foot traffic.
