KENAI PENINSULA-ANCHORAGE BOROUGH RESOURCE ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO ACCEPT PROJECT PROPOSALS

The Kenai Peninsula-Anchorage Borough Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) is seeking applications for projects that would enhance forest ecosystems or restore and improve land health and water quality on the Chugach National Forest.  There is approximately $100,000 in funds available through the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act.

The RAC works closely with the Forest Service and recommends projects that will benefit forest health, fish, wildlife, soils, watersheds and other resources; maintain roads, trails, and other infrastructure, or control noxious weeds.  Proposals will be accepted from any individual or organization.  Proposals with multiple funding sources are particularly welcome. The July 12th meeting will be to review and vote on the recommendation of the funds available.  It is required that 50% of the total available funds be utilized for road maintenance, decommissioning, or obliteration; OR restoration of streams and watersheds.

RAC projects must be located on National Forest System Lands of the Chugach National Forest (outside of the Anchorage and Kenai Peninsula Boroughs) or on other nearby lands if the project will directly benefit resources on the National Forest. Projects can be completed in a variety of ways, including by Forest Service personnel, through partnership agreements, or by open-bid contracting with individuals and corporations.

The RAC Project Proposal form and instructions are available at the Forest Service offices in Seward and Girdwood or on the Kenai Peninsula-Anchorage RAC website at:  https://fsplaces.fs.fed.us/fsfiles/unit/wo/secure_rural_schools.nsf. (Once on the site navigate to the Kenai Peninsula-Anchorage Borough link and download the form).   All proposals are to be emailed directly to April Dent at aprilmdent@xxxxxxxxx.

The deadline for this round of proposals is close of business July 1, 2014.  The RAC will review and vote on projects for funding during their next meeting on July 12, 2014 (from 10-3).  The public is welcome to attend the RAC meetings.  For more information on the Committee or to learn more about proposing projects please contact the RAC Coordinator April Dent at 907-754-2313.
