Moonset Pit 2014 Public Use Schedule

 

WILLIAMS, AZ – Starting May 24th, 2014, Moonset Pit will be open to the public for the disposal of natural, woody debris such as tree limbs and pine needles from their private property. Moonset Pit is located one mile west of Parks, AZ on the north side of old Route 66.

 

“Each and every homeowner can help better protect their homes and properties by removing the woody debris that allow wildland fires to move across the landscape.” says District Fire Management Officer, James Pettit. “Taking unbagged woody debris to Moonset Pit is a responsible and easy way to increase safety.”

 

Moonset Pit Fast Facts:

 

ü  YES- unbagged woody debris, branches, leaves, pine needles

ü  YES- public access on open dates from 9am to 3pm

ü  NO- garbage, building materials, treated wood, hosehold items

ü  NO- bagged items of any kind

Use of the pit is a community service provided to help private citizens create defensible space and improve forest health in their communities.  This service is offered by the Kaibab National Forest and the communities of Parks and Sherwood Forest Estates in coordination with the Rural Communities Fuels Management Partnership.
