Federal Subsistence Deer Season and Harvest Limit Reduced on Lindenberg Peninsula in Unit 3

The Federal Subsistence deer season and harvest limit on the Lindenberg Peninsula portion of Kupreanof Island has been reduced for the 2013 season. The current four month, August through November, season has been changed to a two-week, October 15 through October 31, season and the harvest limit has been changed from two bucks to one buck deer. This action is necessary because of critically low deer abundance in this area and a continuing downward trend in the population. The State of Alaska Board of Game has closed this area to deer hunting by non-residents and approved a similar reduction to the deer season and harvest limit for resident hunters. This action is effective for only the 2013 season. A proposal for a permanent change to the deer season and harvest limit will be considered by the Subsistence Regional Advisory Council in September 2013, and by the Subsistence Board in January 2014.
