June 18 9 a.m. update: The Secret Fire didn’t grow yesterday and is 60% contained, however fire behavior is low with minimal chances of rekindling. Firefighters will remain on scene to monitor and continue mopping up.

Secret Fire update, June 17, 4 p.m. – Minimal fire activity, 50% contained Next update will be Tuesday morning at approximately 9 a.m.
Fire behavior was low to moderate today and firefighters held the Secret Fire within containment lines. In the steep slopes inaccessible to crews, water drops kept the fire from moving into the canyon. Secret Fire remains under 15 acres and is 50% contained.
Two hotshot crews will continue holding lines and mopping up, utilizing helicopters for water drops when needed.
No homes/property are nearby or threatened Smoke is not visible from Flagstaff or Sedona
Location: A remote area at the edge of the Mogollon Rim and Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness, near Loy Canyon. As the crow flies, 30 miles southwest of Flagstaff, 10 miles west of Hwy 89A, 15 miles northwest of Sedona. Start Date: Saturday June 15 Cause: lightning Landscape: dense forest, steep and rugged terrain Restrictions: Temporary flight restriction in place. A temporary closure is in place for the fire area – including a portion of the Secret Mountain and Loy Canyon. Signs are posted and patrols are in the area making contact with any visitors.
