Prescribed Fire Planned Near Tusayan
TUSAYAN, Ariz. – Fire managers continue to evaluate a specific set of parameters that need to be met in order to conduct a 90-acre prescribed fire on the Flying J Project two miles southwest of Tusayan. Pending favorable conditions, crews may implement the burn Wednesday, May 9. The forecast for Wednesday shows east winds and a chance of showers. The east wind will help transport smoke west of Highway 64 and the Grand Canyon Airport. Crews will implement, monitor, and patrol the project to ensure it meets objectives outlined in the prescribed burn plan. Prescribed fire is used to improve forest health, enhance wildlife habitat, and reduce hazardous fuels. For more information, please contact Punky Moore (928-635-5653). -USFS-
