Kaibab National Forest campgrounds to open in May

 

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Campgrounds on the Williams and Tusayan Ranger Districts of the Kaibab National Forest will open for the 2012 season on Tuesday, May 1. Campsites are available both by reservation and on a first-come, first-served basis.

On the Williams Ranger District, the four campgrounds are at Kaibab Lake, Cataract Lake, Dogtown Lake, and White Horse Lake. The lakes are all stocked for recreational fishing by the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Fishing reports are available at www.azgfd.net.

The Kaibab Lake Campground was recently renovated. The campground has a new camping loop with 12 additional campsites, improved day-use parking, and lake access for fishermen.

On the Tusayan Ranger District, the Ten-X Campground is located about 2 miles south of Tusayan, and about 4 miles from the national park entrance. The Ten-X Campground offers 70 single-family campsites, along with two group sites for large gatherings.

To make both family and group campsite reservations at Dogtown Lake, Kaibab Lake, White Horse Lake and Ten-X campgrounds, visit www.recreation.gov. Cataract Lake Campground is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

North Kaibab Ranger District

On the North Kaibab Ranger District, the DeMotte Campground is scheduled to open Tuesday, May 15. This is the day the Arizona Department of Transportation will open the gate at Highway 67 in Jacob Lake, and also the day Grand Canyon National Park’s North Rim entrance opens. DeMotte Campground offers 17 single-family campsites and is located four miles north of the park entrance.

The Jacob Lake Campground will open May 1. The campground offers 51 single-family sites and two group sites. Single-family sites at DeMotte and Jacob Lake campgrounds are all available on a first-come, first-served basis. The group site at Jacob Lake is available by reservation at www.recreation.gov.
