Parallel Fire Reaches Intended Boundary, Stops Growing
TUSAYAN, Ariz. – Managers expect minimal activity on the Parallel Fire as it has run its intended course nine miles southeast of Tusayan. The final size is reported at 4,346 acres. It has been managed for resource objectives since it started by lightning July 4.
Tusayan Ranger District officials say, “When this incident started, we knew it could last for some time. The positive results of this incident include working safely throughout the duration of the incident and returning fire to its proper role in a fire-adapted ecosystem.” Managers added that 4,000 more acres of the forest will be less prone to severe wildfire occurrence because of the successful outcome of this incident.
In addition, eighteen miles east of Tusayan, the Woodbridge has grown to 1,110 acres with little activity reported.
These fires will continue to burn within their perimeters for days or until precipitation douses them. Fire activity consists of burning trees, stumps and logs. The fires will be monitored until they go out.
As hunting season approaches, the public needs to be aware that the fires are not out. Potential hazards include hidden stump holes and fire weakened trees.
