Fire Restrictions to be Lifted on Kaibab National Forest
WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Fire restrictions will be lifted on the Kaibab National Forest, Friday, May 20 at 8:00 a.m. Recent precipitation along with higher humidity and increased fuel moisture has lowered fire danger on the forest, thus decreasing the risk of major wildfires.
Doug Ottosen, Kaibab Fire Staff Officer, reminds the public, “Lifting the restrictions does not mean people can be careless with fire. Although campfires and smoking will be allowed throughout the forest, people should ensure that they properly extinguish their campfires, never leave a campfire unattended and use ashtrays to dispose of their cigarettes. Campers should make sure they have a shovel and sufficient water to extinguish their campfire completely before leaving.”
Fire restrictions may vary on differing national forests. Please call the nearest land management office for current information or see http://www.publiclands.org/firenews/AZ.php.
Always be careful with campfires. We appreciate the public’s assistance in preventing human-caused fires. For more information, please call Punky Moore, Fire Information Officer (928-635-5653).
