Tusayan Ranger District Seeks Public Comment on Project To Treat 8,000 Acres With Thinning and Burning

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – The Tusayan Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest is seeking public comment on a project that would treat about 8,000 acres with thinning and burning.

The project, known as the Russell Vegetation Management Project, would reduce forest tree densities and hazardous fuel conditions through a combination of noncommercial thinning and prescribed burning in an area east of state Route 64, about 15 miles southeast of the community of Tusayan.

Detailed project information is available on the Kaibab National Forest website at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/kaibab/projects.  Scroll down to “Russell Vegetation Management Project.”

Box 3088, Grand Canyon, AZ 86023; 928-638-2443; or fax to 928-638-1065.  Hand-delivered comments can be submitted to the Tusayan Ranger District office from 8 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Email comments (.doc, .rtf, .txt, .pdf, and .html formats only) can be submitted to comments-southwestern-kaibab-tusayan@xxxxxxxxxx  Please refer to “Russell Project” in the subject line of the email.
