Pile Burning Planned on Williams Ranger District

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Kaibab National Forest fire managers plan to burn slash piles at the Moonset and Three Sisters Pits Monday, January 10. A small slash pile may also be ignited on the east side of Dogtown Lake.
Moonset Pit is located just west of the Parks community on the north side of Route 66.  Three Sisters Pit is located three miles northwest of Williams, north of Elephant Rocks Golf Course.
Ignition of the piles is dependent on Arizona Department of Environmental Quality approval. The forecast shows west winds early next week. Smoke may be present for several days after ignition.  Smoke impacts are expected in local areas near the pits.
The use of these pits is a community service for citizens to deposit debris cleared from their property.  Clearing flammable material reduces the risk of a wildfire starting or spreading near your home.
