Pile Burning Planned on Williams Ranger District

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Kaibab National Forest fire managers plan to burn approximately 87 acres of slash piles Monday, November 22 on the Williams Ranger District. The piles are eight miles southeast of Williams and two miles east of Dogtown Lake.

The piles will be ignited if appropriate weather conditions exist and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality approves the burn request. Managers expect smoke to travel northeast of the project and settle in low-lying areas overnight. Smoke may be visible from County Road 73, Dogtown Lake and Williams.

Piles are made of stacked tree slash cut during thinning projects. The goals of thinning and pile burning are to reduce fire hazard and protect communities. For more information, please call Punky Moore, Fire Information Officer, 928-635-5653.
