Tongass National Forest Welcomes New District Ranger in Craig
Craig, AK – The Tongass National Forest is pleased to announce the new ranger for the Craig Ranger District, Francisco Sanchez. For the past 10 years, Sanchez worked as the Coyote District Ranger on the Santa Fe National Forest in northern New Mexico.
Sanchez started his career in 1987 on the Kootenai National Forest in Montana as a wildlife biologist. He went on to work in the same capacity on the Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia and the Carson National Forest in New Mexico. In 2009, he served as the acting district ranger in Wrangell, Alaska. Throughout Sanchez’ career he was also employed as a wildland fire fighter and as an agency administrator on wildfires.
Working in four Forest Service Regions gave Sanchez the opportunity to meet and learn from people of different cultures and geographic areas.
When asked about returning to the Tongass National Forest, Sanchez recently said, "I look forward to a new challenge in working with local communities, tribes and organizations on Prince of Wales Island and the surrounding areas. Together we can accomplish many great things."
