Hobble Fire Update

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – A warm, dry weekend has contributed to increased activity on the Hobble Fire, 18 miles northeast of Williams. Sunday, managers reported the acreage at approximately 1,140 acres. The fire started August 30 and is being managed for resource objectives in an area near the Hobble Mountains on the Kaibab National Forest.

Personnel assigned to the incident are monitoring fire growth, mapping fire progression, scouting the area, and assessing the need for future management actions. “We have identified certain locations, called management action points, where we will take measures to slow or redirect fire spread to continue to meet the objectives set forth for this incident,” said Dave Bales, Hobble Fire Incident Commander. “Our objectives include providing for firefighter and public safety, reducing accumulated debris, and improving wildlife habitat.”

The fire is primarily moving to the southwest in the Hobble Natural Tank drainage. Game Management Unit 7W is within the Hobble Fire Management Area.  If you are planning to camp in this unit, please be aware that the fire has the potential to become more active as fuels continue to dry. It may be necessary to move your camp if fire activity increases.

The weather forecast shows a low pressure system approaching with a slight increase in moisture. Excellent ventilation is expected. Managers expect minimal smoke impacts under this weather pattern.
