Prescribed Fire Plans for Wednesday September 15

Flagstaff, AZ – Pending favorable conditions, fire specialists on the Coconino National Forest are to conduct a prescribed on the Fort Valley Project Wednesday, September 15.

Fort Valley Project – approximately 300 acres northeast of Hwy 180, southeast of Snowbowl Road. Crews will burn in 100-acre increments. Smoke will travel northeast through Schultz Pass. Residual smoke will linger overnight around the Fort Valley and Downtown Flagstaff areas. Light smoke will likely be noticeable around Doney Park as well.

Prescribed fire activity continues to be dependent on personnel availability, weather – including ventilation conditions, and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (www.azdeq.gov).

Two lightning-caused fires are currently being managed for resource objectives. Fire managers will adjust prescribed burn plans according to resources assigned to, and the smoke produced by, the Ranger and Weir fires.
