Tentative Prescribed Fire Plans for the Week of September 13

Flagstaff, AZ – Pending favorable conditions, fire specialists on the Coconino National Forest are tentatively planning several prescribed fire projects the week of September 10.

Prescribed fire activity continues to be dependent on personnel availability, weather – including ventilation conditions, and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (www.azdeq.gov). Two lightning-caused fires are currently being managed for resource objectives. Fire managers will adjust prescribed burn plans according to resources assigned to, and the smoke produced by, the Ranger and Weir fires.

For Monday, September 13
Fort Valley Project – approximately 140 acres located between Chimney Springs and Schultz Pass Road, north of Flagstaff. The majority of smoke will disperse to the northeast with the predicted winds. Residual smoke will likely settle in Fort Valley, Cheshire and Rio De Flag.

East Clear Creek Project – approximately 730 acres west of Blue Ridge Reservoir, south of Hwy 87 and Forest Road 751, adjacent to the Ranger Fire. Smoke will disperse to the north. Residual smoke may impact Clear Creek units 8 and 9.

Tentative projects for the remainder of the week
Eastside Project – Located in East Flagstaff on Campbell Mesa, between I-40 and Old Walnut Canyon Road.
        Fort Valley Project
        East Clear Creek Project
