Tentative prescribed fire plans for the week of May 17

Flagstaff, AZ – Pending favorable conditions next week, Fire Managers are planning to conduct several prescribed burns on the Coconino National Forest.

Peaks and Mormon Lake Districts
East Side Project – 300 acres. About 5 miles east of East Flagstaff, between I-40 and Old Walnut Canyon Road. Smoke may be visible from I-40 and Walnut Canyon area.
Fort Valley Project – 150 acres. About 4 miles northwest of downtown Flagstaff, northeast of Fort Valley Road. Smoke may be visible from Fort Valley Road and Baderville.
Ritter  Project – 300 acres, About 10 miles south of Flagstaff, east of I-17 at Newman Park exit. Smoke may be visible from I-17 and Munds Park.

Mogollon Rim District
Imax Project – up to 2000 acres. About 6 miles northwest of Clints Well. This maintenance burn mimics fire’s natural cycle. Forecast winds are expected to carry smoke north.  Smoke may be visible from FH 3 and I-17 and drain into West Clear Creek overnight.

All prescribed fire activity is dependent on personnel availability, weather – including ventilation conditions, and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (www.azdeq.gov). We understand that smoke created during prescribed burning projects impacts people in our community.  We strive to keep community members informed of our fire management plans and activities.
